Homeowners and builders alike received a big boost on January 29, when the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the National Green Building Standard for all residential construction work. The standard provides the first nationally-recognized, third-party, and verifiable rating system that can define a house as “green.” As part of its commitment to environmental responsibility, Woodmeister Master Builders will incorporate the new rating system in all future residential projects.

Going Green  • Creating a Healthy Home

In the big picture, a healthy home benefits the environment - and its owners - by consuming a minimum of energy resources for heating, cooling, and electricity. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), housing contributes 18% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the US. Of those, 98% is carbon dioxide related to energy consumption. Therefore, our first strategy in creating a healthy home is to make it as energy efficient as possible, thus reducing its carbon footprint.

Master Builder Advice - Eco Finishes  • No Matter What Color You Choose It Can Be Green!

Today’s low-infiltration homes call for non-toxic interior finishes to help ensure healthy indoor air. A rational approach to green building, however, must also consider the durability and longevity of a product. Choosing a material that will have to be replaced or reapplied in a year or two is not environmentally conscientious.
