Field Technician—Nantucket

We are seeking an experienced Field Technician with a background in Finish Carpentry to add to our Nantucket Service team. In this role you will be independently responsible for services related to routine and emergency maintenance and repairs for Woodmeister client properties on the island of Nantucket. In addition you will provide thorough property walk-throughs, diagnoses of problems, suggest and execute preventative maintenance and perform a wide variety of home repairs and maintenance services.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides prompt, skilled service to customers for a wide range of service tasks including millwork and construction repairs, hardware installation, paint touch-up, typical home-maintenance services including but not limited to the following:

  • Finish carpentry, installation of doors and windows.

  • Works autonomously to diagnose problems and, in consultation with Personalized Property Manager, decides whether to self-perform services or refer to other Woodmeister team members or subcontractors.

  • Provides weekly property walk-throughs (November – April) at all Woodmeister Circle properties and documents observations, recommendations, and action items.

  • Ensures work performance meets Woodmeister quality standards.

  • Manages and provides oversight of all subcontractors at client properties.

  • Kitchen up-fits, change cabinet doors, drawer slides, replace hinges.

  • Install dishwashers; perform minor plumbing tasks such as changing washers and faucets.

  • Perform demolition and preparation work. Prepare walls, fill cracks and joints with caulk or plaster, apply primer and finish coat.

  • Perform Bathroom remodels; demolition, preparation, and finish work to Woodmeister standards.

  • Install vanities, shelves, and cabinets, apply grout and sealants, minor tile repairs.

  • Perform bi-annual inspections (Spring and Fall); look for and document problems, address minor issues on the spot, recommend and execute solutions.

  • Decide whether work can be done by the technician or referred to a subcontractor.

  • Perform a variety of home maintenance tasks such as cleaning gutters, minor roof repairs and minor concrete repairs.

  • Ensures that subcontractors understand the scope of their work.

  • Responds to emergencies at client properties, such as alarm calls, leaks, plumbing-related issues, and electrical concerns.

  • Maintains open items lists, updates when work is done and notes when remaining work will be done.

  • Documents activities, completes change requests, records time, and materials accurately, processes and submits all required paperwork timely.

  • Builds and manages a positive relationship with Woodmeister clients.

  • Maintains company quality, safety, and cleanliness standards on all sites.

  • Maintains 24/7 availability on a rotating on-call schedule during the weekends – schedule to be determined monthly by Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, preferably from technical school with concentration in carpentry or construction preparation.

  • Thorough understanding of residential maintenance and home repair including carpentry, construction techniques.

  • Able to follow direction, read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, organize projects, and manage resources.

  • Highly organized, able to think proactively with attention to detail, able to maintain multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, ability to develop relationships with customers, subcontractors, and co-workers.

  • Able to operate hand and power tools safely.

  • Familiar with millwork installation techniques and cosmetic/touch-up painting skills.

  • Able to coordinate the activities of subcontractors to meet Woodmeister's quality standards.

  • Able to share expertise with co-workers, try new ideas and approaches to achieve goals.

  • Familiar with Procore

You must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a company vehicle.

You must be able to maintain 24/7 availability on a rotating schedule – typically one week on, three weeks off.
